The main highlight of Commtouch report was a huge drop in global spam in November to its lowest levels at 59%, from an average of 90+% earlier, due to the shutdown of McColo, one of the largest and most notorious spam-friendly web hosting service provider. This decline, bringing spam levels to a third of the normal volumes, was marked by three weeks of significantly lower spam activity, and finally, a slow increase.

Another significant story was the global financial crisis which has become an important pretext for spammers trying to lure unsuspecting email recipients with fake job offers, instant loans and cash advances. Form Group is a company spread out across the length and breadth of Turkey, with sizeable presence in all major cities of the country. It is a market leader in manufacture and export of flexible, round, oval, and square air ducting and evaporative cooling. The company was looking for a single solution that would cater to their overall security needs and put a cessation on nonproductive surfing and downloads of its employees. Also, with its numerous branches spread out across Turkey, the company needed to safely connect all these branches over the Internet, to the Head Office, to bridge the geographical gaps and to achieve high business connectivity.

The Company settled for Cyberoam UTM solution and used every single feature that Cyberoam provided. The IT department was particularly pleased with the benefits of using security and control policies through Cyberoam deployments to curb all attempts to misuse the Internet. All the branches have now been connected to the Head Office, using Site-Site VPN over Internet. Highly encrypted traffic enforced security over the Internet and proved to be a benefit on multiple fronts as it provided secure business connectivity at a fraction of the cost incurred, prior to Cyberoam deployment.
